OPEN LETTER TO NYRR

We, the long time members of the New York Road Runners Club, find the current rule of excluding team members from the team championship to be counter productive. The goal, it appears, was to discourage "ringers" from suddenly appearing for one race and disappearing as quickly. But for every one so-called "ringer" that you eliminate, you are punishing and disillusioning tens or hundreds long term club members. One of the reasons people run the team championship is to run for their team. To disqualify them simply because they have not run another NYRRC race seems to us to be a bit arrogant. The last time we checked NYRRC is not the only running organization in the world, country, state or even in the city. Some runners find running race after race in Central Park somewhat boring. So, we urge the NYRRC to consider other documented races for the team championship qualification or simple use the existing USATF rules that apply to all athletes concerning team membership. And all local runners who meet the team criteria should be reinstated. Reprinted from nyrrc-democracy-now open letter.

Warren Street Social & Athletic Club fully supports the removal of this absurd rule which is counter productive and not in the spirit of our sport. We have been and still remain eager to compete against all comers. The true champions are those who have the heart to toe the line against the best, not just the best who fit a certain mold.

NYRRC TEAM SERIES 2010

The NYRR sponsors Club Championship Series which Warren Street competes in and frequently wins is set for 2010. The schedule is below, please put it into your calendar!

For 2010, we will once again be competing in this series and our work is cut out for us!

1- All women's teams under 30k will now comprise of 5 runners (yes 5 women to a team).

30k & up three (3) women to a team.
